We had a lovely holiday at this lodge. The chalets are specious with everything you need except bath towels. Beds are covered with mosquito nets and roof fans keep it a bit cooler. The road from the main road is very sandy, however lower tyre pressure works. January 16, 2020We booked well in advance. Covid was not on the horizon. Then it was after we paid for a four bedroomed place our deposit.
This was the wrong amount,... read more quoted erroneously low. So we had to pay more in.
Enters covid and locked borders.
The owners were gracious to wait longer for the second halve of the payment, pending the opening of the borders and also amenable to a different date altogether.
Cometh the hour, 4 of the 6 of us got Covid and could not go.
My wife contacted the admin and offered that we could go to a smaller unit as we were only 2.
They accepted the offer, but did not reciprocate with a reduction in the fee.
We were given a very nice unit, in spite of the lack of airconditioning. However, with the windows open(crime, what is that?)
and the ceiling fan the heat was bearable.
I found it strange to sleep in a netted cage however, but anopheles left us alone.
Access to the beach was very easy.
Power failures were quite often, but the generator worked very well. The daily cleaning of the unit was great.
Fish and other seafood was delivered on your door step as you required.
This was nice. Very nice More
January 5, 2021Guinjane Lodge has left me with very mixed feelings. The physical position, the chalet itself, the clean facilities were almost perfect in every way. My gripe is that there is no braai grid - one can be rented (I wasn’t charged) - and that no bath towels are supplied, a first in my self-catering experience. It was stated to bring towels in the booking form, but this was missed in the long list of rules. And that is the problem with Guinjane Lodge - rules, rules and more rules. The rigorous cancellation policy, the required key deposit, the form received on arrival, the information folder with more rules, the fire warning pictures. This all spelt a picture of complete distrust and enveloped us with a cloud of negativity. The final straw was when we left, handing back the keys and braai grid to the cleaning lady we told her that we had left her a tip. She was visibly fearful and requested that we fetch it as she was forbidden to return to the chalet until it had been checked and believed she wouldn’t get her money. This left us with a bad taste. The Management needs to take a good look at their style, investigate how similar lodges are run, wonder why we were the only guests in the shoulder season...
